Every year as Fashion Week makes it way around the world, the cities of New York, London, Paris, and Milan become home to the latest collections and shows of fashion designers. Students from every country have opportunities to study and soak up culture at international fashion schools.

Every fashion student should travel the world, at least for one semester, even if they plan to work in New York or California, as two-thirds of fashion designers do. The perspective that can be gained on American and international fashion from an international fashion school is priceless. For instance, one will see trends from one country to another, each gaining their own spin on a haircut, hemline, or heel. By attending an international fashion school, you can be ahead of the game.

International Fashion Schools

International fashion schools often host exchange programs which operate on a semester or yearlong basis, and are open to currently enrolled students in fashion schools. If you are pursuing a bachelor degree, you will usually be able to transfer units from one school to another; if you are earning an associate degree you may be better off spending your time at one school instead of entering an exchange program. An advanced degree program at an international fashion school may be more appropriate to your educational goals.

Fashion School Education

The benefits of attending an international fashion school can be great: you have the opportunity to learn another language and acclimate yourself to social customs other than American. The history and culture you'll explore overseas in an international fashion school will inspire you and add to the sense of style you possess already.

By pursuing your education in a context other than the one you grew up with, your designs will take on a more exciting, more global appeal.
